WGIPOA March Meeting

The West Galveston Island Property Owners Association meeting provides island residents updates on information that affects us all. This last meeting had several topics I thought would be of interest to Pointe West owners.

The agenda was extensive and did not leave any time for Q&A at the end of the meeting. Click this link for the agenda:

Jerry Mohn noted this is the 10 year anniversary of the WGIPOA. It formed in March 1999.

The GLO will wait 2 seasons before establishing the final 4.5 foot line.

HB911 - Otie Zapp presented a summary on the impact of this potential new legislation. Otie believes this will produce devestating effects for Galveston and its property owners. All those present were in agreement action is needed to ensure this legislation is not approved. Everyone may want to keep up to date on the progress of this bill. Please read this attachment. https://home.comcast.net/~alpetros/HBill_911.pdf

Karen Mahoney, District 6, City Council reported on several topics. Of interest was:

  • The Recovery Committee would be presenting to City Council on April 9 and public comment will be held at Ball HS this Saturday.

  • Bollard replacement is behind schedule. City Council will be discussing this at the next meeting. She asked that we call the police if vehicles are driving on the beach where not allowed.

  • Illegal signs posted by contractors will be coming down.

Cheryl Johnson, Tax Assessor/Collector moderated a PowerPoint presentation and had several handouts that she believed should answer most questions about her department's responsibilities and upcoming legislation that could affect each of us.
